Grayton Beach

Live the laid-back beach bum life along the Florida coast.

Welcome to Grayton Beach

The first community established in the greater South Walton area is a laid-back, relaxed beach town home to crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches, and oceanfront seafood shacks. Beautiful bungalows, waterfront mansions, and other coastal-style estates enjoy endless views from upper-level balconies and close proximity to hundreds of acres of protected coastline and parkland. The quiet community of Grayton Beach enjoys less-crowded shorelines than some neighboring towns and is ranked among one of the best beach towns in the United States.

Casual eats, boating excursions, and hundreds of acres of parkland await just beyond the shores of Grayton Beach’s powdery white shores. Chiringo is a bright, seaside option specializing in internationally inspired beachfront eats. Grouper, fish tacos, fried oysters, and other seafood caught straight from the Gulf are abundant here and served in a cozy dining room, or out on a scenic patio. Situated in what was once an old general store, Red Bar was recently rebuilt and has returned to its former glory, much to the delight of loyal locals. Elevated sea shack favorites are enjoyed under vibey red lights in an unpretentious dining room. A cool, funky space is found at Hurricane Oyster Bar, well-known to locals for their great happy hour deals, Sunday brunch, and fun daily specials. Oysters, shrimp, crab legs, and tacos are some of their best sellers, all of which pair well with their namesake hurricane cocktail, only $5 during happy hour. Chanticleer Eatery is another nearby local favorite, offering modernized American cuisine. A large salad menu, tasty sandwiches, and yummy desserts offer an alternative to the usual all-seafood menus usually found along the shores of the Gulf. Thanks to its seaside location, locals enjoy close proximity to the ocean and all the recreational activities which come with it. Grayton Beach is the only place in the nation where private fishing charters launch right off the white sand beaches. At nearly 2,000 acres, Grayton Beach State Park is the community’s main beach, offering year-round fun in the sun to visitors. In addition to fishing excursions and days spent on the boat, locals can swim, paddleboard, and soak up rays at one of the top-rated beaches in the nation. On the other side of the beach, Western Lake is a freshwater alternative and one of the larger lakes located among the coastal dunes. Kayak and canoe rentals are available on the shores of the lake, along with trails, picnic facilities, public boat ramps, and beach access.

Grayton Beach residents send their children to school within Walton County School District. South Walton High scored a 91/100 by U.S. News & World Report for its high enrollment in advanced classes, near-perfect graduation rate, and stellar scores on state exams.
